Ultra Violet

Well, here we go.

Lately I've been doing some observations, and I've noticed that a lot of new entries on Disney Channel were being unfairly screwed over by the network and its executives. Getting shoved aside and shown to the door before they can receive a large fanbase. Frankly I think this is a great injustice, because it means that Disney's showing some favoritism over their popular IPs, and beloved franchises that get to be long-runners and have revival, whereas the newcomers get cancelled after one season (or two of the show's lucky enough), and then Disney acts as if the show doesn't even exist. Cancelling the show's bad enough, but removing the shows from Disney+, and putting some of the videos for their YouTube channel on private? That's crossing a line, people! It's going to turn a lot of people away and make them lose hope in you guys. Which is why I'm trying to spread aware to some of these shows that were unfairly neglected by the network. Starting with proposing characters from some of these entries. So here we go!

What's the Work?[]

Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion is a tragically short-lived superhero series from Disney Channel. It's noteworthy for featuring a Latina protagonist, as well as most of the main cast being of Latinx descent (though it's not necessarily the first one.) It's also one of the many series that was removed from Disney+ for dumb reasons. (I had to pirate this series!). Here's the brief summary version:

13-year old Violet Rodriguez felt extremely insecure over herself and her abilities, due to failing at nearly everything, and having to live in the shadow of her superior (yet humble and supportive) older brother Santiago (or just simply "Tiago"). Even her parents eventually stopped having a lot of faith in her, regardless of how much they pretended to. (Also her mother became the principal of Violet's middle school) Then one day, Violet was chosen by a mysterious, magic purple luchador mask which gives her an instant outfit change, and makes her super-fast when she puts it on. She used her new powers to become famous on social media, started a livestream, and created a name for alter-ego while wearing the purple suit (Ultra Violet). Violet decided to a collab with Black Scorpion -- the town's beloved luchador superhero with super-strength -- but Black Scorpion isn't interested, so Violet follows him and learns that Black Scorpion was her seldom-seen uncle/godfather Cruz. Cruz is surprised over Violet having a mask, and decided to mentor her to be a superhero like him.

(Also, another noteworthy thing to mention, the magic luchador masks only work for the person they're chosen for. (Violet for the purple mask, Cruz for the black mask, etc.) If anyone else tries to put on the mask, it would simply be a normal mask. It won't give them an outfit change or superpowers.)

What Makes Her a Sonic Expy?[]

  • She's Heroic and Honorable: She's aided Black Scorpion and some of the other Super Lucas with fighting criminals within their town, helped a worried mother find her missing daughter who wandered off, and at school, she's currently frenemies with her classmate Luis Leon, in spite of the latter wanting to learn and reveal Ultra Violet's secret identity
  • She's Chaotic Good: Typically disliking Black Scorpion's constant strictness and authority. As well as his black-and-white view on criminals. (Though, Cascada's a stronger example of this)
  • She's Energetic: Though considering she has super-speed, it's almost a requirement.
  • She's Confident and often Cocky: In fact, it's the main reason why she's a Near Pure Good, rather than a full Pure Good
  • She's Humorous and Witty: She has a serious sense of humor and a lot of wit -- mostly when she's in superhero mode.
  • She's Has a Distinctive Style: With her outfit that magically appears when she puts on her mask.
  • She's Enthusiastic: She's super eager to use her mask's powers to fight threats, and being a hero... though this also make her a bit impatient.
  • She's Playful and a little bit Mischievous: Aside from experimenting with her speed and agility and being playful over some of her thwarts, she once set up a series of events using her super-speed, in an attempt to get Cruz on a date with Coach Park.
  • She's Loyal: Not just to other Super Luchas, but also her close personal friends, such as Maya Miller-Martinez, Evita Acosta and Hannah Nguyen. She's constantly making efforts to be there for them.
  • She's Protective: She cares about her uncle Cruz very much, and though she's never had to recuse the rest of her family from threats, she definitely would if she had to.
  • She's Adventurous: She's new to being a Super Lucha and she's really wants to learns about all of her mask's abilities with her speed, and will gladly put herself at risk for the sake of a test.

Bonus[]

  • She's also Speedy/Agile: Thanks to the powers of her purple mask
  • She also sometimes Uses Slang: referring to criminals as "crimmies", much to Black Scorpion's frustration.
  • She also Likes Eating Fast Food: As she and her best friend Maya are fond of going to a pizza place together.
  • She's also a Daredevil: As she likes testing out her suit's powers to see what she's capable of.
  • She also has an unnatural Hair Color: While Violet's hair is a natural, realistic color in civilian form, her superhero costume the mask provides, dyes her hair purple which isn't natural.
