Oh, forget it. I'm delaying my Mario proposal for a long time. Anyways, a TON of mascot platformers in the 90s are Sonic Expies, and one of the most obscure examples is Socket.
What's The Work?[]
Socket is a 1993 platformer released on the Sega Genesis.
Who Is He?[]
Socket is the main protagonist and the sole playable character of the game. But he's one of the odder candidates because of a lack of personality traits in-game, but I'm going off of what I can imply from the ending cutscene and the manual.
Traits[]
- Heroic: Restores the time flow by defeating the Time Dominator and stopping him from stealing treasures from the past.
- Confident: His box art shows that he is pretty confident. Not only that, but he has no scared expressions in any sprites.
- Rebellious: Just look at his outfit, and compare him to the other robots (that are apparently the Time Police) in the ending of the game!
- Has A Distinctive Style: A robot duck saving the flow of time from a villain stealing treasures from the past? That's unique.
- Loyal: To the Time Police.
- Protective: That's why he stops the Time Dominator from taking over the world and stealing treasures from the past.
- Speedy/Agile: His gameplay revolves around speed. And come on, High Speed Areas are how he travels through time!
- Stylish and Trendsetting: Again, just look at his outfit.
- Anthropomorphic Animal: A robotic one. A robotic anthro duck.
Final Verdict[]
A moderate yes to Socket. But the next candidates? They're more obviously Sonic Expies.
